Illustrator Emma Metcalfe was commissioned by the National Army Museum to create illustrations for a touring exhibition commemorating the centenary of the First World War. The images show a young soldier before, during and after he enlists in the British Army.
It was important to capture the uniform detailing correctly but still make the images accessible enough so that they would interest younger visitors, without looking too 'cartoony' for an adult audience. Emma supplied the artwork in both black and white and coloured versions so that the images could also be used in educational resources.
