Battle of Flodden Historical Illustration

This is an illustration of the Battle of Flodden, which was fought between the English and Scottish armies in 1513. It is one of a series of illustrations for an illustrated timeline of Tudor History, commissioned by Hall Place Tudor Mansion in Bexley.

In the foreground you can see King James IV of Scotland, who was killed during this battle, which ended in Victory for the English army.

This was quite a challenging piece, both to draw and to colour, since there are so many figures and so much going on but I feel very happy with it now it is complete.

I have entered this image in CreativeMatch.com's monthly illustration flair competition.Click here to see my Illustration Flair Entry at CreativeMatch.com

William Shakespeare

Small image of William Shakespeare, again part of the Hall Place Tudor Timeline. The challenge with this was getting a likeness whilst keeping the image simple and stylised.

Characters for Museums Sheffield, Victoria & Albert Museum Medieval and Renaissance Treasures Exhibition

Here are some characters I have designed for Sheffield Millenium Galleries, who are due to be hosting the travelling V&A Museum exhibition 'Medieval and Rennaisance Treasures'. These characters will be used as part of a children's trail, and on signage to link some artefacts to Sheffield Heritage sites.

The characters shown here are a White Canon Monk, and Mary Queen of Scots.

They will be coloured in due course - I realise my last few posts on here have been a bit black and white!

More Tudor Timeline Illustrations

I've had a very busy few days working on the illustrations for the Hall Place Tudor Timeline. I've now submitted the black and white versions for approval - so hope to be getting down to some serious colouring before too long.

The timeline runs from Henry VII to the death of Elizabeth I so covers a timespan of hundreds of eventful years.

Events inlcude, the discovery of the West Indies by Christopher Columbus, the many marriages (and divorces!) of Henry VIII, the short reign of the unfortunate Lady Jane Grey, the birth of William Shakespeare and the Battle of Flodden (between England and Scotland).

So basically I've done a lot of illustrations! But I am only going to post a few here, and save the rest to upload to my portfolio page once they are coloured and completed.

The images shown here are Henry Marrying Jane Seymour (now Poor Anne Boleyn is out of the way!) and the dissolution of the monasteries.
