This week's Illustration Friday topic is 'island' - I am currently working on expanding my historical illustration portfolio - so chose to use this as an opportunity to illustrate this famous Winston Churchill quote.
I found trying to get a likeness quite challenging, but I am pleased with the end result and hope it bears some resemblance of the great man himself.

This is a poster I drew for the Advice to Sink in Slowly project, which passes on advice to new university students in the form of A3 posters. This was a challenging prokect due to the sheer complexity of the image! Colours look a bit garish on screen.
Advice to Sink in Slowly Poster Shop - You can take a look at some of the other posters here - it's fascinating to see everyone's individual responses to the brief. Hasn't been updated with this years posters yet though.

Theme is 'Routine'. I decided to think out of the box slightly for this one, I thought of the idea of someone having a break from their normal routine, and had the idea of people with strange and exciting jobs doing something very normal and mundane as a break from their normal adventures. My image is entitled 'The Lion Tamer's Day off', and shows just that.

Have completed some Illustration work for the SS Great Britain Museum. It is an illustrated Trail sheet for children - the idea being that they spot items on their way around the ship.
I enjoyed this opportunity to work in black and white line only, and the challenge of making the objects fun to spot.

Book launch went well, a nice occassion and opportunity to meet some interesting people. That was followed by a week of long days at the New Designers Show, business design centre, Islington. Our boards looked great and once again a fantastic opportunity to meet people from industry and make valuable contacts.
Came back from New Designers tired but very determined, and immediatley started on some new promotional material. Finished my new Historical Promotional Postcard yesterday. I'm going to be sending this out to various people in publishing, but if you would like a copy drop me an email.
